Intel Atom D2500 vs Intel Atom N455 vs Intel Atom D2700

Intel Atom D2500

► remove from comparison

The Intel Atom D2500 is a dual core entry level processor for Nettops and Desktops. Compared to the N-series of Atoms, the D-series does not feature Speedstep to save power. Therefore, the battery runtime should be clearly lower.

The CPU features a PowerVR SGX545 graphics card (at 400MHz) called Graphics Media Accelerator 3650 and a video decoding engine for MPEG4 Part2, VC-1, WMV9, and H.264. Furthermore, the chip now also supports DisplayPort 1.1 and HDMI 1.3a outputs. According to rumors, Intel had some troubles with the Windows graphics drivers.

The processor core should be still similar to the old Atom processors. Therefore the performance of the D2500 should be suited only for low demanding tasks.

The integrated 64Bit Single-Channel DDR3-800/1067 memory controller supports two SODIMMS and a maximum of 4 GB RAM.

Intel Atom N455

► remove from comparison Intel N455

The Intel Atom N455 is a small and cheap entry level CPU for Netbooks and small laptops. In the package is an integrated memory controller for DDR3 main memory (the difference to the Atom N450) and the GMA 3150 graphics card

The performance of the whole system (Atom N455 and integrated GMA 3150) is only sufficient for basic tasks like surfing the web, or office working. HD video, video cutting, advanced photo editing, multitasking and of course gaming may overstrain the GPU and CPU. Compared to the previous Atom generation, the performance gain is only marginally above a similar clocked Atom N280 / GMA 950.

An advantage of the combination, is the small overall power consumption of the CPU, GPU and memory controller (only 6.5 Watt TDP). Intel states 20% power reduction and 60% package reduction. Therefore, the chip is ideally used in small Netbooks, MIDs, and thin laptops. Compared to the Z500 series combined with the US15W chipset (2.4+2.3 W), the power consumption is similar.

Intel Atom D2700

► remove from comparison

The Intel Atom D2700 is a dual core entry level processor for Nettops and Desktops. However, it is also built in the Asus VX6S Netbook. Compared to the N-series of Atoms, the D-series does not feature Speedstep to save power. Therefore, the battery runtime should be clearly lower.

The CPU features a PowerVR SGX545 graphics card (at 640MHz) called Graphics Media Accelerator 3650 and a video decoding engine for MPEG4 Part2, VC-1, WMV9, and H.264.
