Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 official with a faster CPU, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0

Qualcomm has unveiled its newest SoC for upper-mid-range smartphones. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 (SM7750-AB) succeeds the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and is expected to debut alongside the Honor 400 series soon. Qualcomm makes lofty claims about its performance, stating it is offers a 27% faster CPU, 30% faster GPU and 65% faster NPU compared to its last-gen counterpart.

The bump in CPU performance can be attributed to its new core layout, which now has 1x prime core (2.8 GHz), 4x performance cores (2.4 GHz) and 3 efficiency cores (1.8 GHz). Its unspecified Adreno GPU supports HLG, HDR10+, HDR10,and HDR vivid codecs. Qualcomm hasn't revealed much about the Hexagon NPU but says it can run AI workloads like Stable Diffusion locally.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 launches with a triple 12-bit Spectra ISP that can capture 200 MP still images and supports 10-bit colour depth photo and video capture. It can record videos at up to 4K 30 FPS/1080P 120 FPS in HDR and HLG. Wireless communication options include sub-6 GHz 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, Bluetooth LE, and support for Qualcomm audio codecs like aptX Lossless, and aptX Adaptive.

Lastly, OEMs can configure the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 with up to LPDDR5-4200 memory. Alternatively, LPDDR4X-3200 and LPDDR4-2100 modules are also supported. Supported storage standards include UFS 4.0, UFS 3.1 and UFS 2. The included USB-C port runs at USB 3.1 speeds. Qualcomm has manufactured the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 on an unspecified 4 nm node.
