The Samsung QX411-W01 is beautifully made inside and out. Its only detraction is that it's more expensive than most mainstream laptops in its class. The moderate premium you pay, however, is for top-notch battery life, an elegant and sturdy design, and pretty good gaming performance. If you want a better overall value, with the fewest compromises, the Asus U46E-BAL5 is our pick in this class.

One area where the Samsung QX411 shines is battery life – it offers a full 6 hours of moderate use, although Samsung has decided to make the battery non-removeable, which certainly makes extending the standard 12-month battery-and-all warranty advisable. It isn’t without its faults, and the webcam is a bit of a joke, but the Samsung QX411 is one of the best-priced notebooks around.

Roughly a year ago, I reviewed the Samsung QX410-J01, a new and exciting laptop by a relative outsider. For a full set of features in a Core i5 laptop in the $600 range, it's extremely hard to beat the Samsung QX411-W01UB, which stands out for its great keyboard and impressive extras.

The Samsung QX411-W01 is a beautifully constructed mainstream laptop. This revision sheds the Nvidia graphics system in order to lower its price by $200, but supplements it with a speedier Core i5 processor. The clicking touchpad can be maddening to use at times, although this isn't news to the QX series. It's a solid system and priced accordingly, but the Dell Inspiron 14z (Core i5) uses similar parts and comes with a better clickpad experience and a backlit keyboard.

14.0: 14 inch display size is a mixture between the small formats of subnotebooks and the 15 inch standard display. The reason why so many people like displays with medium size is, that this size is not exhausting for the eyes, does not need too much energy and the laptops can be kept quite compact.
