Volume
The ventilator works not very loud with 38,3 dB but it runs continuously even without load. As soon as the performance of the laptop is somewhat engaged, the ventilator shifts up immediately to level 2 with 41,4 dB. Afterwards gradually the remaining levels follow. However the noise remains unobstrusive. Here the exact measured values:
Ambient noise: 30.5 dB
laptop on, ventilator level 1: 38.3 dB (without load)
ventilator level 2: 41.4 dB (load)
level 3: 42.9 dB (load)
level 4: 49.3 dB (load)
maximum: 50.6 dB (inclusive DVD drive assembly)
Loudspeaker
The 3 small loudspeakers (2 for upper frequencies, 1 subwoofer) did not override in the test with the maximum volume and played cleanly with light basses. However the maximum volume is not sufficient for a party.

The color curve of the screen is interesting. A line rising from 0/0 to 255/255 would be ideal. One can see clear that the curve is completely lowered and only the blue part arises to a brightness of 255. That is the reason for the very much over-radiated colors after the calibration of the display. For commercial artists the panel is not recommended.

The MSI Megabook L715 is extremely mobile for a 17" Desktop-replacement. Reasons are the good, solid workmanship, the small weight and the slim dimensions. The duration time of the accumulator is unfortunately somewhat smaller than with the Centrino sister model L725.
Further positive aspects are a good performance of the used ATI Radeon X700 with 256 MB Grafics card memory and a Turion processor.
The Megabook L715 is recommend for all those, which actually are searching for a 15.4" laptop for games due to weight and mobility reasons. In addition, in the segment of "heavy" 17" desktop-replacement the L725 makes a good figure due to its good and slim design.
duration time of accumulator
The run time without load is as worse as with other Turion laptops and somewhat worse than with their Centrino brothers and therefore below average (however not really bad).
The duration time of the accumulator of the MSI L715, compared with equivalent devices, is not really good with 39 minutes under load. Here the bright display might contribute a part.
Idle (reading text): 3h 06min (min. brightness, Powerplay)
Full load: 0h 39min (inclusive WLAN, max. brightness, Powerplay out)
DVD play: 1h 50min (with a maximum brightness, Powerplay)
Current consumption
min 47.9 W
idle 57.6 W
max 76.8 W
Performance
Again the Ati Mobility Radeon X700 equipped with 256 MB video memory shows its good potential of performance in the middle class. All current games can be played at least with average details perfectly. However antialiasing is recommendable only with older titles. The 256 MB video memory are favorable too.

Heat development
The top side warms up moderately up to a maximum of 42°C, whereby the important hand rest areas remain relatively cool with 27°C and/or 34°C . Nevertheless the lower surface severly heats up to 48°C. Using the mobile computer on the lap such temperatures already are unpleasant.
Display
17 inch widescreen displays keep impressing. Due to the small proximity to the screen one has a large surface before itself. The panel of the MSI Megabook L715 with a resolution of 1440x900 pixel, shines with maximally 180 cd/m² pleasantly bright.
Unfortunately it is a reflecting screen and therefore not suitable for bright environments (e.g. sunshine). Our test equipment showed two brighter marks in the center of the display. The creation of cloudy stains with our test laptop was average/good.
Here the 9 brightness measurements on the display (brightness distribution):
Input devices
The layout of the pleasantly large keyboard including a numeric block all all our testers described as a disaster. As MSI decided to implement a numeric block, unfortunately some other keys got to be smaller e.g. the arrow keys and the enter key. Particularly the small right SHIFT key is unpleasent. Nonetheless one gets accustomed to everything and slowly the error rate reduces more and more when tapping this article.
Sometimes the keys got a noticeable pressure point although with too gentle pressure letters were omitted. We got to mention positively the firm anchorage of the keyboard is in the laptop.
The 6 short keys offer WLAN/Bluetooth and camera on/off. Unfortunately has to be mentioned that there exists only this key for WLAN and Bluetooth, so it is uncomfortable to achieve the desired operating mode (only WLAN, only Bluetooth, WLAN and Bluetooth, both out).
The Touchpad is in 16:10 format like the screen and can be served pleasantly. Only the keys can be pressed somewhat difficulty at the borders.
Case
The large, flat chassis offers space for a 17" widescreen display. It is properly manufactured and hardly bends and crunches with pressure. However, the screen cover is not manufactured as well and tortes more. The design of the case seems modern as with all MSI laptops tested up to now and the plastics feels well.
The screen hinges block relatively strongly, and the display can be moved only with effort, whereby a hand must fix the mobile computer at the desk. Nevertheless the display keeps whipping.
Further it was noticeable that the catch hooks engage with high pressure and loud noise. Remedy creates only the pushing of the release key.
The MSI L715 offers all connections, which are expected of a mobile computer and thereby is very well equipped. The connections are distributed moderately well on the chassis, since unfortunately the accumulator takes a majority of the back and only leaves space for a Kensington lock, a modem, LAN and the current plug. Particularly disturbing are the frontal sound connections, if someone wants to operate continuously external loudspeakers.
The implemented 1.3 megapixel camera supplys images of low quality and with irregular interruptions. However it is surely sufficient for video telephoning and/or conferences.

The desktop-replacement laptop convinces by its flat look and relatively small weight. We tested the 17 inch laptop. Detailed information and benchmarks can be found in this review.
