The Nuromova N1 is a wearable of a different kind. It is not worn on the wrist like a smartwatch, but is essentially a headband with smart functions and extensive sensor technology, including an EEG module. This captures brain activity via certain positions on the scalp. According to the manufacturer, this is intended to monitor mental states such as focus, stress, fatigue and emotional shifts during training. At best, this will enable athletes to receive real-time information about performance, which means that the device could be used to monitor training in order to avoid overload, for example. Two electrodes are used, which is low compared to medical applications and may well be a limitation.
An AI coach is advertised, which supposedly gives users insights and tips. In addition to two EEG electrodes and other sensors, there is also a gyroscope for recording movements and a linear motor that can provide haptic feedback, even during training and without looking at the smartphone. The headband connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth 5.0, and the app is available for both Android and iOS.
Backers of the crowdfunding campaign have to spend at least $329 for the super early bird deal, but there are considerable risks involved. Nuromova is a new company, and there is no guarantee that customers will receive the device at all, let alone in the advertised and expected quality.
