NEC has unveiled the 13.3-inch WUXGA VersaPro J UltraLite Type VY business laptops designed for all-day runtimes thanks to a user-replaceable large battery option. The notebook is designed to withstand drops, shock, and keyboard spills, with a TFT LCD panel that flexes under pressure.
The system leverages the AI NPU in the Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors for AI management of power usage and battery health. When using the large battery option, the VersaPro Type VY has a runtime of 20.1 hours (video playback) under the JEITA 3.0 battery operating time measurement method, with an average runtime of 16 hours under normal use, according to NEC in-house testing. The NPU is also used to support AI background noise cancellation during video meetings and power the AI Plus Biz support agent during system troubleshooting.
The system can be configured with 4P/4E Core Ultra 5 226V to Core Ultra 7 258V CPUs, 16 GB to 32 GB of RAM, and 256 GB to 1 TB of SSD storage. Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth connectivity are standard, while cellular LTE connectivity is available as an option. All models come with two USB-A, two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (PD, DP), and one HDMI port in addition to a 3.5 mm headphone jack and microSD card slot. The full HD webcam supports Windows Hello and comes with a privacy shutter.
The notebook comes in a standard and lightweight configuration, with either a standard or large battery. It weighs between 885 g (1.95 lbs.) and 1,031 g (2.27 lbs.), and measures between 299 x 214 x 17.9 mm and 299 x 214 x 18.2 mm (11.77 x 8.43 x 0.70 ~ 0.72 in.) depending on configuration. The regular battery weighs 150 g (5.29 oz.), and the large battery weighs 259 g (9.14 oz.).
The VersaPro J UltraLite Type VY has a starting price of 255,090 yen (~$1,759), and the large battery costs an additional 4,070 yen (~$28). Both can be purchased from the NEC online store in Japan.
