New story content and DLC
The update continues the main journey with “The Great Convention”, a storyline that picks up right after the “Find the Fremen” and “The Assassins Handbook” quests. Players are tasked with pushing forward the overarching narrative, “Wake the Sleeper, find the Fremen”, while uncovering darker elements that stretch deep into the Imperium. The free update offers new cosmetics, as well as dynamic events to stumble across in the open world for intrepid explorers.
In addition, Funcom has introduced a new DLC journey titled “The Lost Harvest”, giving players the option to expand their adventure with fresh story content beyond the base game. The update includes new cosmetic armors, weapons, and emotes. Those who spend the majority of their time decking out a massive base will have new building and decorative pieces to play with as well.
Expanded features and gameplay systems
This patch introduces several long-requested features and improvements:
- Character Recustomizer: Social hubs like Harko Village and Arrakeen City now include dedicated rooms where players can pay to alter their appearance. This comes with four new hairstyles, tattoo tinting, and custom colors, giving more freedom for character identity.
- Auto-Run Toggle: A convenience feature allowing characters or vehicles to move forward automatically.
- Base & Vehicle Organization: Players can now rename objects in the Placeables and Vehicles menu for easier base management.
- New Weapon: The Adept Missile Launcher has been added to the arsenal, expanding combat options.
- Trainer Contract Rewards: Completing Advanced Trainer Contracts now grants exclusive armor sets tied to each trainer, along with customization items for broader styling. Those who completed contracts previously will retroactively receive the new gear.
- Assault Ornithopter Buffs: Increased storage capacity for better utility.
Quality of life updates, such as the ability to rename storage containers, and change character appearance, have been requested by players since early launch. (Image Source: Dune Awakening site)
Performance and stability updates
On the technical side, the update improves both stability and performance:
- Improved server stability and anti-cheat measures.
- Performance optimizations across Arrakis, including fewer assets in heavy areas and smoother play around Mysa Tarill.
- Building improvements, such as more granular controller rotation for construction pieces and expanded building zones in the Shield Wall region of the Deep Desert.
Funcom has also stated that ongoing hotfixes and future minor updates tied to this patch will be rolled out in the coming weeks. Some of these changes may go live instantly, while others will require downtime. Players are advised to watch for in-game service messages or restart Steam if their client doesn’t update automatically. More info can be found in the patch notes for version 1.2.0.0.
