The recent limitations of the Trump administration on the chip exports to China have affected several manufacturers, including Nvidia, that had released the H20 chip for this market as a response to previous regulations. This chip was less powerful than other models and could be exported to the Asian giant. However, new and more astringent regulations on the external sales to this country were imposed.
Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, commented on a livestream posted by Taiwan's Formosa TV News that the company is working on the next steps, but confirmed that it will not be a version of the Hopper processor.Huang said that it is not possible to modify this chip further. The company is analyzing how to move forward in this market.
After the ban of the H20 chip exports, the company informed that this decision would affect in $5.5 billion the quarterly results. The Chinese market is very relevant for Nvidia, as it accounted for 13% of the sales in the fiscal year ended January 2025.
The Trump administration has increased regulations amidst concerns about the usage of these processors to power artificial intelligence (AI), after the release of the Chinese language model DeepSeek.
