VIA S3G UniChrome Pro vs VIA S3G UniChrome Pro II

VIA S3G UniChrome Pro

► remove from comparison VIA S3G UniChrome Pro

The S3 UniChrome (Pro) is a DirectX 7 (without T&L) onboard graphic solution (shared memory) from VIA for laptops. The graphic core, which has been developed with the names Zoetrope, AlphaChrome, Savage XP and S3 Graphics UMA Core, is intended for office activities and hardly suited for 3D games. Sometimes the UniChrome Pro is also known as VIA Castle Rock.

The 128-bit 3D graphic core offers hardware DirectX 7 support but without Transform & Lightning (T&L) unit. Two pixel-pipelines are able to render two textures per turn with a triangle rate of 4.5 millions triangles. The pixel filling rate amounts to about 200 millions of pixels per second (texels up to 400 millions).

The difference between UniChrome und UniChrome Pro is an improved video-engine called Chromotion-engine (MPEG2 decoder, adaptive De-Interlacing und video deblocking).

Implemented in the chipsets: CLE266, KM400, KN400, P4M266

Because of the DirectX 7 support the graphics adapter can not display the Aero Glass interface of Windows Vista.

VIA S3G UniChrome Pro II

► remove from comparison VIA S3G UniChrome Pro II

The S3 Graphics UniChrome Pro II is a DirectX 7 (without T&L) onboard graphics solution (shared memory) of VIA for laptops with VIA C7-M CPU and VX700 North-Bridge, which is intended for office applications and hardly suited for 3D games. There is no Aero support.

The 128-bit 3D graphic core offers hardware DirectX 7 support but without Transform & Lightning (T&L) unit. Two pixel pipelines are able to render two textures per turn with a triangle rate of up to 4.5 million triangles. The pixel filling rate is up to 200 million pixels per second (texel up to 400 millions).

The difference to Unichrome Pro is not precise and partially the Unichrome Pro II is declared as Unichrome Pro.

Inserted in the chipsets: VX7000

Due to the missing pixel shaders (DX9) the video card can not represent Aero Glass of Windows Vista.

Game Benchmarks

The following benchmarks stem from our benchmarks of review laptops. The performance depends on the used graphics memory, clock rate, processor, system settings, drivers, and operating systems. So the results don't have to be representative for all laptops with this GPU. For detailed information on the benchmark results, click on the fps number.
