US Army start their own high security Android app store

Teaser
US Army personals have come up with an Android application that helps civilians train them.

A beta version of a brand new civilian facing mobile application has been released by the U.S. Army for Android and iOS. This application will offer the civilians a bunch of training applications which will be helpful to them and can be used on Smartphones and tablets. The application can be downloaded via the marketplace in a packaged format, and it is even available on the Army mobile website. The applications are pre-loaded with screenshots, descriptions and download links, but the submit review section is not valid.

The CIO Lt. Gen. Susan Lawrence briefed that at this time, the Apps marketplace is at the center of all the Army efforts which will help them to thereby reduce the time to deliver applications across the force. The beta version/prototype has been the stepping stone of the Army establishing them and exercising submission and approval request mechanism that will help to enable Army members, organizations and third-party developers in order to release applications for Army-wide distribution

Amongst the whole list of apps that span the gamut of emergency response procedures to a water well location and data to proper training guides, the most popularly selective app is Soldier View. The Soldier View application spreads awareness of the manner of using a topographical map and all the recent reports in the selected area.

It has now been some time since the Army has been working to incorporate Android apps into their operations. A slight problem that comes out is that any device issued by a military personal needs to be having the modified version of the Operating System to remain secure. We have earlier noticed the Army getting into the Android hardware game in the past, but as the software marketplace has started shaping up to be fairly universal, regardless of the kind of device the service personnel has been using.

It does definitely sound pretty cool to hear about the military and the Smartphone integration, but the astonishing fact that comes across is that they have been doing this testing right in front of the public eyes instead of organizing a private beta.
