Chevrolet has unveiled its 2027 Bolt EV that will be released in early 2026 at a $28,995 starting price that could make it the cheapest electric SUV in the US at the time of launch.
The Chevy Bolt announcement comes right after Tesla unveiled its most affordable Model Y, the Standard trim. The Tesla offers 321 miles of range, while the 2027 Chevy Bolt will run for 255 miles on a charge, it costs ten grand less, too.
2027 Chevy Bolt range and features
Its predecessors were the cheapest electric vehicles sold in the US, and the new Bolt, that has now lost its EUV moniker, cherishes this tradition. For the rather low starting price of $28,995 that includes the destination fee, Chevy has equipped the 2027 Bolt with a native NACS charging port for direct Tesla Supercharger network access. It also comes with a CCS adapter included in its price for charging at other stations.
Chevy has also addressed the main complaint about its EUV predecessor by installing a 65 kWh LFP battery that can be topped up with 150 kW speed for a rather reasonable 10–80% charging time of 26 minutes. Unlike most Tesla Model Y trims, the affordable Chevy Bolt comes with bidirectional charging that includes 9.6 kW vehicle-to-home (V2H) power delivery.
Needless to say, at this price point the 2027 Chevy Bolt only comes with one electric motor at the front that outputs 210 hp, as well as smallish 11-inch touchscreen and gauge panels. The infotainment system doesn't support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto directly, while the GM Super Cruise hands-free system with lane changes, trip follow, and highway interchanges, is a paid option.
The Bolt has gotten new body and interior designs, too. The front has been streamlined compared to the EUV predecessor that looked rather busy, and the taillights have been moved up where they are expected to be. Inside, there is a new central stack with wireless charging pad, adjustable cupholders, and refreshed ambient lighting. With the rear seats folded down, the Bolt now offers 57 cubic feet of cargo capacity.
