Xiaomi confirms Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro camera specifications while showcasing sample photos

Xiaomi has revealed more details about the Xiaomi 13 series, despite delaying its release indefinitely. Having already outlined what performance upgrades we should expect between the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 13 series, the company has now shared several camera samples from both smartphones. As always, we recommend treating these photos as what the Xiaomi 13 or Xiaomi 13 Pro could achieve in ideal conditions; Xiaomi may have altered these images using photo editing software, too.

Nevertheless, the company has confirmed that both smartphones will contain a telephoto camera with a 75 mm equivalent focal length. Reported to be the ISOCELL JN1, a 50 MP and 1/2.76-inch sensor, the camera should be a decent upgrade over the lacklustre telephoto cameras in the Xiaomi 12 series. Also, Xiaomi will support the new telephoto camera with OIS across both the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro.

Separately, Xiaomi has confirmed earlier rumours by announcing the latter’s reliance on the Sony IMX989, a 1-inch sensor also offered in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. The primary camera experience should be almost identical between the Xiaomi 12S Ultra and Xiaomi 13 Pro, with Xiaomi also porting Leica camera tunings across to the newer smartphone. Theoretically, the improved image signal processor (ISP) in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 could help deliver marginal image quality improvements, though. Unfortunately, Xiaomi is likely to wait until early 2023 before releasing the Xiaomi 13 or Xiaomi 13 Pro globally.
