Unannounced gamer-oriented Lenovo Chromebook based on the IdeaPad 5i models surfaces online with Core i5-1235U CPU

Some of the specs like the 16-inch QHD screen with 120 Hz refresh rate and the entire port selection come from the IdeaPad 5i Chromebook launched a month ago. Gamer-oriented specs include an RGB keyboard, a distinctive design on the aluminum lid, quad-speakers and a Core i5-1235U processor. The missing dGPU suggests this would be a game streaming system.

It looks like Lenovo is planning to release gamer-oriented Chromebooks soon, as an unannounced IdeaPad 5 Gaming Chromebook from Lenovo was recently spotted on the company’s product specification reference site by Chrome Unboxed. Based on the specs, this model is similar to the IdeaPad 5i Chromebook announced this August, but it comes with a few more features that should appeal to gamers.

The chassis, as well as the 16-inch QHD display with 120 Hz refresh rate and 100% sRGB color gamut, Wi-Fi 6 / Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity plus the port selection that includes 2x USB-C ports, 2x USB-A ports, audio jack, and a microSD card reader are borrowed from the Ideapad 5i model. There are, however, quite a few notable differences. A “tribal” design is added to the right side of the screen aluminum lid, while the full-size keyboard features RGB backlights, and the audio system includes four 2 W speakers.

As far as processors go, the Core i3-1215U from the IdeaPad 5i is offered along with a more powerful i5-1235U option that integrates an Iris Xe GPU. The configurations are still limited to 8 GB of RAM and the storage side features a 512 GB NVMe SSD. No dGPU options mentioned, so these models are most likely intended for game streaming over services like Amazon Luna, Nvidia GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
