CES 2012 | Toshiba showcases Ultrabook and tablet concept models

The ultrathin Xcite tablet may not be the most intriguing device over at the CES Toshiba booth this year. The Japanese corporation has unveiled a couple of conceptual devices that may hopefully see the light of day in the future.

The first is the Toshiba Satellite Ultrabook, a 0.78-inch (19.8mm) thick, 14-inch Ultrabook with Ivy Bridge. The notebook will have a number of USB ports, an HDMI out and a chiclet keyboard. We've also been told that the Satellite will use a hybrid HDD/SSD setup. Expect this Ultrabook to be available later this year where it should be selling alongside Toshiba's existing Portege Z830 Ultrabook.

Next up on the work-in-progress list are tablets, and Toshiba has showcased a fair number of them. One of these prototypes is a waterproof tablet displayed in a filled fish tank. Following this is a range of other tablets in varying sizes, such as a 5-inch tablet with a 21:9 display, 7.7-inch AMOLED tablet and a “massive” 13.3-inch HD tablet. If you’ve ever wanted to know what a stretched out smartphone would look like, then the 5-inch tablet would be a great representation. 

Unfortunately, Toshiba provided no other details regarding these prototypes. Only time will tell whether or not any of the above products will be put to market. Check out our gallery and video below for a quick run-through of each one.
