Origin PC introduces EON17-X notebook with ridiculous specs

Teaser
At over 2 inches thick with a price tag of over $3000, this 17.3-inch "notebook" throws in an Intel hex-core CPU and GeForce 580M SLI graphics for one of the most powerful experiences imaginable

The claim of “most powerful notebook” is thrown around a lot these days, but that isn’t stopping anyone from taking the crown no matter how temporary it may be.

Florida-based manufacturer Origin PC has made available one of its most powerful notebooks yet, the EON17-X. As an update to last year’s EON17-S, the EON17-X shares many similar features, including a full HD display (now 17.3-inches) and a similar set of connectivity options that would make even Alienware feel low-end.

Most impressive, however, is the Intel X79 chipset and the included CPU. The Origin PC notebook can be equipped with an Intel 3.3GHz Core i7-3960X Hex-Core CPU with 15MB L3 cache, GeForce GTX 580M SLI graphics (MXM 3.0 TypeB) and 32GB Quad Channel DDR3 RAM.

If you have money to burn, the EON17-X starts at $3159. The base model “only” includes a quad-core Core i7-3820 CPU, a single GeForce GTX 580M and 8GB RAM. Regardless of configuration, expect the titanic notebook to weigh in at 12.1 pounds (5.49kg) with a thickness ranging from 2.22 to 2.39 inches (56.38mm to 60.71mm) front-to-back.

With an Intel X79 chipset and dual overclocked Nvidia GeForce GTX 580Ms in SLI you won’t find a more powerful laptop anywhere else,” said Origin PC CEO Kevin Wasielewski in the press release.
