Wireless charging is already appreciably popular today. Its market is thought to be capable of attaining a US$27 billion value over the next 6 years, according to the latest research. Its results show the most prominent application of this technology is in (surprise surprise) smartphones.

The latest market research suggests that the wireless charging industry will be worth US$27 billion in 2025. In other words, this value may grow at a compound annual rate of up to 30% over the next 6 years. This growth is thought to be strongly influenced by the smartphone space. Then again, it has also been found that wearables also accounted for 63.2% of the wireless-charging market in the first quarter of 2019.

Wireless charging, also known as inductive or Qi wireless charging, is defined in this most recent report as these modalities that deliver between about 100 to over 1000 watts of power without a wired connection. (Then again, it is not clear if this includes those emerging forms of true-wireless charging such as those developed by Vivo or Cota).

A range of applications besides personal electonics are also thought to have the potential to contribute to the future growth of this market. They include charging in medical devices, as well as in-car charging. On that note, it is possible that electric cars themselves may transition from wired to wireless charging in the near future.
