Samsung's next top-end phone is projected to be called the Galaxy S22 Ultra, despite its rumored acquisition of an integrated S Pen. However, the latest word from a prolific leaker is that the South Korean giant intends to drop the flagship branding of this year for one that more accurately reflects the apparent merging of its premium smartphone and phablet lines.

Samsung has been said to produce a direct successor for the Galaxy S21 Ultra in 2022. This super-flagship phone is also projected to be the first of its line to rock an in-built S Pen, effectively taking over these duties from the very possibly defunct Galaxy Note series. Now, it seems the OEM may have just gone all in on this idea and confer the appropriate branding on the top-end Galaxy S22 variant as well.

The "Galaxy S22 Ultra" (or a variant thereof) has been depicted as a device with what may indeed look like the latest iteration of many characteristics developed by Samsung over the years so as to better support integrated stylus use. Now, according to the leaker Tron (or @FrontTron on Twitter), the OEM has decided it might as well give the upcoming top-end phablet the re-brand to match.

Accordingly, the flagship is to be introduced as the Galaxy S22 Note rather than the S22 Ultra. This may strike some as an extreme hotchpotch of long-held series names; however, in the face of renders with the dimensions and styling of a Note, but with the upgrades predicted for the next S-series, the new name may make more and more sense.

The same device, whether Ultra or Note, is currently tipped to launch with specs and features that do indeed give the impression of a pitch at the more business- or pro-focused buyer. However, it may still be some time before all of these intriguing rumors see validation (or otherwise).
