A YouTube leaker has suggested that the launch date of the PS VR2 headset could be pushed back to 2023. They cite the lack of PS5 consoles, which will power the VR experience, as the reason for the delay.

PSVR Without Parole, a respected YouTube leaker, has claimed that the PlayStation VR2 headset's launch could be delayed until Q1 2023. The leaker, also known as Bryan Paul, suggests that the launch date, which many had assumed would be Christmas 2022, will be pushed back by several months.

In the past, Paul has leaked some accurate specs for the PS VR2 and says their information is from multiple 'credible sources'. These sources could not be verified, so this new launch date is purely a rumor at this stage.

Paul states that the delay is due to the ongoing chip shortage, which is inhibiting the production of the PlayStation 5. The new VR headset will require users to have a PS5, so the lack of these consoles could restrict the sales of the PlayStation VR2 and further upset loyal customers.

The leaker speculates that the lack of a state of play or staged event backs up their theory that the product is delayed, indicating that Sony is waiting to build buzz around the device. A later release would also buy Sony more time to produce a greater volume of the VR headsets for a more significant launch.

This potential launch date delay follows Sony's recently shared images and specs for the PS VR2 headset. The confirmed details we have so far include a 4K HDR display and haptic feedback.
