The Mi 6X pays TENAA an early visit

After the release of the Mi Mix 2S last week, and the Redmi Note 5 Pro just over a month ago, we may be set to get another device from Xiaomi soon. The Mi 6X has made a surprise appearance on TENAA, which is usually indication that we’re a few months away from launch.

The Mi A1 was released about six months ago. The device went on to become a best-seller, undoubtedly playing its part in Xiaomi’s rise to becoming the fifth-largest smartphone brand in the world by the end of Q4 2017. The A1 was, for all intents and purposes, a rebranded Mi 5X. The Mi 5X was marketed as a mid-range camera device by Xiaomi, and the A1 brought stock Android and a few other network bands in addition to the 5X’s packages.

This new device, the 6X, could likely also double up as an Mi A2—if there is to be an A2 at all. The A1 was an obvious reference to the Android One platform the device was released under, so an “A2” wouldn’t exactly make much sense here.

In terms of design, it doesn’t seem to be much different from the Mi 5X. The rear cameras have transitioned from a horizontal alignment to the iPhone X-esque vertical placement seen on the Redmi Note 5 Pro. It’s also likely to feature an 18:9 display.
