The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus are expected to mirror the design of their predecessors, albeit with a few Galaxy S22 Ultra-inspired differences. Most improvements for Samsung’s next-generation flagships will be internal though, such as the global adoption of Snapdragon chipsets. Recent FCC certifications have highlighted that larger batteries should be headed to the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus, too.

The FCC has published two listings for unreleased Samsung smartphones, widely thought of as the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus. Certified as SM-S911B and SM-S916B, the pair should be joined by the Galaxy S23 Ultra, regulatory filings of which FCC has not published yet. As always, the FCC has not shared device photos or specification sheets.

However, the regulatory body has outlined a few details about the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus. On the one hand, the FCC confirms that the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus will support 25 W fast charging, likely only over a wired connection. By contrast, the pair may well peak at 15 W when recharging wirelessly. While the Galaxy S23 matches its predecessor in this regard, the Galaxy S23 Plus delivers 20 W fewer to its battery than the Galaxy S22 Plus. With the latter matching the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s charging capacities, we suspect that moving the ‘Plus’ model back to 25 W fast charging is a way to distinguish it from the Ultra further.

Additionally, the FCC outlines that the Galaxy S23 Plus has a 200 mAh larger battery than its predecessor, with a 4,565 mAh rated capacity likely to be marketed as a 4,700 mAh typical capacity. In short, including a larger battery but recharging at a lower wattage will result in slower charging speeds. Meanwhile, there will be a comparable upgrade for the Galaxy S23, which the FCC details has a 3,785 mAh rated battery capacity. Hence, the Galaxy S23 should offer a 3,900 mAh capacity, 100 mAh shy of the Galaxy S21.
