At about the same time that Cyanogen reported 50 million CyanogenMod users, there may already be over 50 million users running Windows 10.

Cyanogen announced just a few weeks ago that it had reached over 50 million users with CyanogenMod after being in the market for years. Now, sources close to Microsoft are boasting over 50 million installations of its newest Windows operating system despite being available for less than a month. The figures are not entirely official as it was not announced directly by the company.

So far, Microsoft has officially claimed that 14 million users have upgraded to Windows 10 after the first 24 hours of availability. Exactly how many more have been added since then, however, remains in the realm of speculation. After all, 50 million installations does not equate to 50 million unique users.

Estimates range from 25 million to 67 million. Exact figures from distribution partners do not yet exist as it is too early to tell. The next major OS update will come this October as "Threshold 2" with new features and extensions.
