OnePlus reports over one million registrations for OnePlus 2 invites

OnePlus 2 invites recorded near the amount of OnePlus One handsets sold

While OnePlus One sold about 1.5 million units since launch, more than 1 million OnePlus 2 reservations have been recorded in just three days.

OnePlus One surely did not kill the Apple iPhone or Samsung Galaxy flagships, but selling over 1.5 million units without any significant marketing efforts is a big success for the Chinese startup, a company that was founded in December 2013. Although it lacks NFC connectivity and a microSD slot, OnePlus 2 promises to give Samsung and Apple a run for the money.

According to an official press release from OnePlus, "On the heels of launching the OnePlus 2 via the world’s first virtual reality keynote, the excitement around OnePlus has continued to build to a crescendo with over one million users now registered for an invite to purchase the device – all in less than 72 hours."

Fans across the globe can enjoy a hands-on experience with the OnePlus 2 at events in big cities such as New York, San Francisco, Paris, Berlin, Milan, or New Delhi. These events will take place today and people attending have the chance to go home with invites and various exclusive gifts.

Unlike the OnePlus One, OnePlus 2 has to face competitors that offer similar specs for about the same price, for example the Motorola Moto X Style or the ZTE Axon. Remains to see if OnePlus 2 manages to surpass the sales of its predecessor.
