HMD Global is taking its strategy of releasing affordable, midrange/low-end smartphones that promise good battery life and build quality a bit further with the launch of the Nokia X30 5G and Nokia G60 5G phones. Both phones pack Snapdragon 695 SoCs, bigger power packs than their predecessors, and 3 years of OS updates.

Nokia has made the X30 5G and G60 official at IFA 2022. Built from sustainable materials, both phones are 5G-capable, pack updated hardware, and are promised to receive three years of OS updates, security patches, and warranty.

Nokia X30 5G

The Nokia X30 is the more expensive of the two. It has a 100% recycled Aluminum frame, 65% recycled plastic back, and no charger in the box for some extra sustainability points. The front of the X30 is dominated by a 6.43-inch 90 Hz AMOLED display with a maximum brightness of 700 nits and protected by Gorilla Glass Victus.

Inside, the Nokia X30 is powered by a Snapdragon 695 SoC, 6/8 GB of RAM, 128/256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage, and a 4200 mAh battery that can be charged at up to 33 W. The phone is rated at IP67 for protection against the elements.

The camera situation on the Nokia X30 has seen a few notable upgrades. Gone are the gimmicky macro and depth shooters as Nokia has decided to go with a dual camera setup with a 50 MP main camera with OIS and a 13 MP ultrawide shooter with a 123° FOV. The main snapper features 1.0 µm pixels and utilizes 4-to-1 binning to boost image quality. Finally, there is also a single punch-hole 16 MP selfie camera on the front.

Nokia G60 5G

Nokia G60 5G packs the same Snapdragon 695 as the X30 and offers 4/6 GB of RAM and 64/128 GB of expandable storage. The G60 also has a marginally bigger battery than its predecessor at 4,500 mAh that can be charged at up to 20 W. Sadly, Nokia will only be including the charger inside the box in select markets.

Around the front, the G60 packs a 6.58-inch 120 Hz LCD with an FHD+ resolution and a peak brightness of 500 nits. There is also a solitary 8 MP selfie shooter. Finally, the screen and the camera reside under a sheet of Gorilla Glass 5.

Similar to using an older version of Gorilla Glass, the camera situation on the back also represents a mix of improvements and cost-cutting. There is an improved 50 MP main camera with 4-to-1 pixel binning. The secondary sensors include a 5 MP ultrawide and a depth sensor.

Both the Nokia X30 5G and the G60 5G will go on sale from today at price tags of US$530/€530 and US$320/€320 respectively.
