New Volkswagen ID.3 concept announced with 12-in infotainment display

A new concept for the Volkswagen ID.3 has been announced. The next generation vehicle will be officially unveiled in Spring 2023. Compared to the existing model, it appears that most design changes are with the car's interior. For example, the EV comes as standard with a 12-in (~30.5 cm) infotainment display, a removable boot floor for extra storage space, and a central console with dual cup holders. The company also indicates that it has simplified the charging process with Plug & Charge and Electric Vehicle Route Planner tool improvements.

Eco-conscious design elements include using partly sustainable materials in the vehicle's interior. Plus, VW suggests that its delivery of the EV will be carbon neutral. The new ID.3 will have enhanced software to boost performance and the ability to receive OTA updates. Customers in Germany can now pre-order various models of the car, with prices starting at €43,995 (~US$46,237). Due to current high order levels, Volkswagen notes that it will fulfil new orders in Q4 2023 at the earliest.

The company also announced that it will expand its mass production, with its Wolfsburg factory starting to manufacture the car in 2023. Currently, two facilities in Zwickau and Dresden produce the vehicle. So far, Volkswagen claims that it has delivered over half a million units of the ID.3 globally.
