The new "visual update" of Office is now becoming official. This cosmetic adjustment makes the productivity suite match the new Windows 11 look, although some users still on 10 might also see the update. It mostly functions to add the new rounded corners and dark themes to 4 of Microsoft's classic work-focused apps.

Microsoft had introduced the concept of a "visual" rebrand for its Office suite of apps during the Windows 11 unveiling. Now, it has started to roll this form of update out to its customers via the "Coming Soon" (or 'megaphone' icon) feature.

Microsoft does call it an update, although it mostly affects how Office apps look rather than how they function. Accordingly, the most prominent change a user might notice is a switch from the hallmark blue bar to one that matches what would be the main OS theme under Windows 11 by default.

It follows that the user can change this from light to dark as they prefer, regardless of that same default theme. In addition, Office apps will start to exhibit those new rounded corners as a result of this roll-out. Then again, it only applies to Word, OneNote, PowerPoint and Excel thus far.
