A new book by a well-known author unveils an absurd conversation between Tim Cook and Elon Musk that allegedly took place five years ago. In it, the eccentric founder of Tesla supposedly tried to snatch the CEO position of the world's most valuable company.

It's not uncommon that billionaires have conversations which regular people could not relate to. However, Wall Street Journal reporter Tim Higgins' new book, Power Play: Tesla, Elon Musk and the Bet of the Century (US$25 on Amazon), has now revealed an alleged dialogue between Apple CEO Tim Cook and Tesla founder Elon Musk that couldn't be more absurd.

The phone conversation purportedly took place in 2016, the year in which Tesla was in major financial trouble prior to the release of the all-important Model 3. Apple boss Tim Cook approached Musk with the proposal that Apple could acquire the electric car company, which would have instantly solved Tesla's cash worries. Musk appeared to be interested, but asserted that he wanted to be CEO. Cook initially agreed, inferring that Musk wanted to remain CEO of Tesla.

"No," Musk answered. "Apple. Apple CEO." As a reaction to this ludicrous demand, Tim Cook responded in an expletive manner before he hung up the phone. Cook just recently stated that he has never spoken to the Tesla CEO, and Musk also denied that such a conversation has ever happened. Earlier reports also indicated that Tim Cook refused to meet with Musk to discuss an acquisition of Tesla. In conclusion, this wild rumor should be taken with a significant grain of salt.
