Google Search Lite app in the works

Google Search Lite experimental app now in the works August 2017
Google Search Lite
This upcoming version of Google's most used mobile app aims emerging markets, where low-end handsets are very popular. The official announcement still has to arrive, but the app is already in testing.

Google Search gets regular updates but, until now, it was just one variant available for all Android handsets. However, low-end handsets that dominate the mobile landscape in the emerging markets across the globe are expected to get a light version soon.

Dubbed Google Search Lite, this app is currently being tested in Indonesia. Google recently showed ads on Facebook inviting local users to test this app that seemed to target the Indonesian and, possibly, the Indian market. There are no details to talk about, but given its purpose, this app should use a lower amount of hardware resources and should also generate less data traffic. Voice searches seem to be still in place, but the search bar is now located at the bottom of the screen.

At last, we should also highlight that Google Search Lite comes with the ability to use lite web pages and an internal browser, instead of sending searches to the default browser. The app listing on Google Play is only accessible from Indonesia for now, but we hope to see it hit other regions in the coming weeks as well.
