Google Pixel hardware date event confirmed as Google Tensor G2 processor teased
Google has finally announced the date of its autumn hardware event, nearly four months after previewing several devices at I/O 2022 alongside the Pixel 6a and Pixel Buds Pro. Incidentally, the announcement arrives almost 24 hours before Apple's next hardware event, where it is expected to present at least the AirPods Pro 2, iPhone 14 series, the Watch Series 8 and Watch Pro. While Apple always remains quiet about what products it has up its sleeve, Google has made it clear that the following are set for release:
- Pixel 7
- Pixel 7 Pro
- Pixel Watch
Curiously, Google's teaser video includes the Pixel Buds Pro, which the company started selling earlier this summer. On a Store post, Google explains that the event will be live, unlike the pre-recorded events of recent flagship Pixel releases. Presumably, the event will mirror Google's I/O 2022 keynote, in which it teased the Pixel Tablet too ahead of a 2023 release. Separately, Google has confirmed that the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will rely on the Google Tensor G2, it 'next-generation Google Tensor processor'.
Unfortunately, Google has not referenced the Pixel 7 Ultra or the Pixel Fold, also known as the Pixel Notepad. Potentially, these could be in attendance in one way or another, although we imagine that Google would have said something about either device if that were the case. Google's autumn hardware event will commence on October 6 at 14:00 UTC. Given that Jon Prosser was correct about the timing of this autumn's event, it seems likely that Google will open Pixel 7 series pre-orders on October 6, before commencing shipments on October 13. It remains to be seen whether these dates will also apply to the Pixel Watch.
It's all coming together.
