Google+ founder Vic Gundotra resigns from Google

Vic Gundotra, a Senior VP at Google, today announced his departure from the company after 8 years of work. Gundotra was best known for starting the annual I/O conferences as well as creating Google+, Google's attempt at competing with Facebook and Twitter.

The Google executive fittingly announced his resignation in a post on Google+, where he thanked CEO Larry Page and members of his Google+ team. Gundotra did not indicate what he plans on doing in the future, though he felt that "it is the time for a new journey".

Google's plans for Google+ in Gundotra's wake are yet unclear, but it appears that VP of Engineering David Besbris is slated to take over. Whether this will lead to significant changes with the social network is also up in the air, but an official announcement should come soon.
