Google acquires Cronologics

Cronologics joins Google to help improve Android Wear

The startup that joins the search giant has been founded in part by former Google employees back in 2014. Now, the Cronologics team will be working on improving Android Wear directly.

Although wearables are not doing great, some even claiming they are dead, Google still has plans for the Android Wear platform. This week, the search giant acquired Cronologics, a startup deeply involved in creating a smartwatch platform.

According to the official Cronologics website, the startup and the team behind it "are joining Google to help grow the portfolio of watches powered by Android Wear." The same source reveals that the main goal of the enlarged Android Wear team is "to continue pushing the frontier of wearable technology and smartwatches with Android Wear 2.0 and beyond."

As it usually happens with such transactions, the financial terms have not been disclosed. Cronologics recently launches its CoWatch smartwatch this September. The smartwatch comes with a proprietary OS and offers support for Amazon's Alexa digital assistant. Unfortunately, there is no official information about the fate of this smart wearable now that Cronologics has become a part of Google, but we will keep you posted.
