Gigabyte asserts that its new AORUS TACHYON motherboard, made for Z790-compatible processors such as Intel's Raptor Lake line, has broken records on Cinebench. They apply to an overclocked version of the high-end Core i9-13900K CPU. The OEM now pitches the board as "exclusively for extreme overclocking" on the back of this new achievement.

Gigabyte's new Z790 AORUS TACHYON motherboard is hyped as one designed for pro-grade "overclockers" thanks to an in-built, purpose-made "kit" made up of the shortcut keys, toggle switches, and voltage detection functions for control over the adaptations and tweaks as necessary.

This design, along with that of the "full-coverage thermal" management system and "direct" VRM is touted to get the most out of Intel's latest CPUs - the Core i9-13900K included. Gigabyte has reported a new "overclocking world record" on Cinebench R23 using this silicon on its new Z790 board.

The OEM posted this new score of 56783 points on October 25, 2022, as a result of running an "all-core OC 7584 MHz" variant of the Raptor Lake platform with DDR5-8300 RAM on the TACHYON board. The i9-13900K was indeed listed as hitting nearly 7.6GHz during the test, although the RAM was detected as getting no faster than 4.146GHz.

Gigabyte describes the HWBOT-verified score as a "global 1st place" and a sign that Raptor Lake can indeed achieve optimal performance on all of its cores. Then again, while the score is indeed #1 for all 24-core processors, and also first of all 37 entries made with the i9-13900K at the time of writing, it ranks #33 overall.

Nonetheless, it is higher enough for Gigabyte to tout the new TACHYON, along with the rest of its new "flagship and high-end" Z790 motherboard line, as a route to "Ascend the Throne of Overclocking" from their October 2022 release.
