Galaxy A9 Star Pro looks set to sport four rear cameras

With the sales of the Galaxy S9 series lagging behind expectations, Samsung mobile chief DJ Koh recently vowed that it has a strategy to help turn things around. Rather than waiting to debut new features on its high-end phones first and then trickle them down to mid-range devices, the company is going for a more aggressive approach. We saw this plan come to fruition last week with the launch of the Galaxy A7 (2018), which is the first Samsung smartphone to feature triple-rear cameras.

Now, fresh reports have surfaced pointing to another new mid-range smartphone from Samsung set to push the boundaries of smartphone photography further again — at least at the expected price point. According to the folks at All About Samsung, the forthcoming Galaxy A9 Star/Pro will ramp things up to four rear cameras. These are said to include an 8MP wide-angle camera with a 120-degree FoV, a 24MP main camera, a 10MP zoom camera and a 5MP zoom camera. The combination could offer some interesting depth of field effects, among others.

The render of the Galaxy A9 Star/Pro included with the article is based on a Samsung teaser for the October launch, which states, “4x fun.” It includes a 6.28 AMOLED display with a Full HD+ Infinity display, which is also a likely choice for the device. It will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 that is a chip favored in the segment. It should also be sufficient to drive the optical performance that the A9 Star/Pro promises to deliver. Just when dual-cameras started to become the norm, the start of the camera module wars appears to be upon us!
