CD Projekt Red confirms dropping Gwent at the end of 2023

Although it made its debut back in 2018 on Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game expanded its reach in 2019, 2020, and 2021, when it also arrived on iOS, Android, and macOS. The Gwent: Rogue Mage single-player expansion was released earlier this year. Unfortunately, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that 2023 will be the last year with official support for this game, which will be passed on into the hands of the gamers' community from 2024 onwards.

As revealed in a recent YouTube video (see the article source link), Gwent: The Witcher Card Game will get a new competitive season and three new card drops next year. The season will end in December, and the card drops will bring no less than 70 new cards into the game, but these will be the last ones to be added to the game. 

Starting in 2024, the community will be in charge of the game via the Gwentfinity Project (no details available at this time apart from the fact that it involves a community-driven effort supported with tools and guidance by CD Projekt Red). On top of everything that exists in the game right now, CD Projekt Red is also working on improving the progression system. The upcoming progression enhancements promise to spice things up for players in terms of both difficulty/complexity and rewards that can be gained as well.

The multiplayer servers will remain up for the foreseeable future, but CD Projekt Red will surely pull the plug one day. However, this is a topic to think about a few years from now on. For now, the CD Projekt Red team in charge of Gwent so far remains focused on making sure that the game will be ready to be passed on to the community at the end of next year.

Last, but not least, it should be highlighted that the game will still get a certain amount of support after the handover, mostly in terms of server maintenance, tech support, and overseeing the community's work.
