Apple has significantly reduced the amount of discount users get when they trade in their Android smartphones for an Apple device. For instance, where Apple used to give US$325 for the Galaxy S21 5G, the company now gives US$260. The reduction in value is reflected throughout Samsung’s flagship phone lineup.

Apple has reduced the trade-in value of several Android smartphones anywhere from US$5 to upwards of US$140. The maximum amount of money that you can now get is US$405 by trading in a pristine quality Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The value for the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra was US$545 before the reduction took place.

Except for the Galaxy S8, all past and present Samsung flagship phones have seen their trade-in value take a hit. Google Pixels have also dropped in value. The Google Pixel 5 went from fetching US$315 to only managing US$235. Apple hasn’t added the newly released Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro to the trade-in program, so the Pixel 5 remains the best Google phone when it comes to trade-in value.

Aside from Android smartphones, Cupertino has also cut trade-in discounts for Macbooks and iPads. Trading in a Macbook Pro will now net you US$1415 instead of the usual US$1630. Similarly, you will now get a discount of about US$335 after trading in an iPad Air as compared to US$345.

The trade-in values mentioned here and on Apple’s website are rough estimates, at best. The actual trade-in discounts that you get will depend upon the condition of your device.
