AMD Radeon Instinct MI25 will be a 300 W Vega graphics card

AMD has officially announced its new graphics card series aimed at professional users called "Radeon Instinct". The first batch will consist of three cards catered to developers and deep learning research with high half- and single-precision (FP16/FP32) performance. The most interesting aspect, however, is that the top model of the three will run on AMD's next generation Vega architecture.

Called the MI25, the Vega-powered graphics card will carry a total of 4096 shader units for a theoretical performance of 12.3 teraflops (FP32) and 24.6 teraflops (FP16). The processor will be paired with 16 GB of HBM2 VRAM capable of transfer rates of up to 484 GB/s. A beefy PSU will be required to power the graphics card as it will reportedly have a TDP of 300 W.

Moving one step down from the MI25 Vega is the MI8 Fiji that will be similar in architecture to the current Radeon R9 series. The MI8 will carry the same number of shader units as the MI25 but with only 4 GB of HBM1 VRAM and a reduced performance of 8.2 teraflops in both FP16 and FP32. Cooling requirements will be cut by almost half to 175 W compared to the Mi25.

Finally, the last card will be the MI6 based on the current Polaris generation of Radeon RX400/500 consumer graphics cards. The Mi6 will carry 2304 shader units and 16 GB of GDDR5 VRAM for a theoretical performance of 5.7 teraflops in FP16 and FP32 modes. TDP will be slightly lower than the MI8 at 150 W.

The Radeon Instinct MI series should be coming next month if AMD is sticking with its original launch window. Prices have yet to be announced.
