The Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 has shown up on Geekbench. It fares a lot better this time around, with single and multi-core scores of 1,300 and 3,900, respectively. While this is better than the Snapdragon 888's score, it still falls flat against Apple's A15 Bionic.

Qualcomm's upcoming flagship, the Snapdragon 898 (or 895, depending on who you ask), is still shrouded by mystery. A report from earlier told us about its core configuration, but little is known about how it performs. It has turned up on Geekbench twice, and both showings were underwhelming. It has appeared on the benchmarking platform once again.

Veteran leaker Ice Universe says that the Snapdragon 898 managed to net a single-core score of 1,300 and a multi-core score of 3,900 in Geekbench 5. Unfortunately, it isn't accompanied by a listing in the Geekbench database, so we must take the information at face value. Ice Universe is usually spot-on with leaks, but some caution is always advised.

Although the yet-to-be-verified Snapdragon 898 Geekbench run is far better than its previous iterations, it is still leagues behind Apple's silicon. That being said, it does offer a decent performance uplift over the Snapdragon 888. We also have to consider that the test was likely performed on an engineering sample which doesn't allow the chipset to operate at full potential.

Now that we have a rough idea about what the Snapdragon 898 brings to the table, it'll be interesting to see how it fares against the MediaTek Dimensity 2000. Earlier reports speculated that both chipsets would share the same core configuration (1x Cortex-X2 + 3x Cortex-A710 + 4x Cortex-A510). However, the Dimensity 2000 will use TSMC's 5/4nm manufacturing process, which is said to be superior to the Snapdragon 898's Samsung 4nm node.
