Canon has unveiled the EOS C70 4K Digital Cinema Camera, the first of its series to have compatibility with RF lenses. It features a next-gen Super 35mm sensor, yet weighs only 2.6lbs. It is rated for 4K DCI/UHD up to 120 frames per second (fps) or 2K DCI/HD up to 180 fps.

Canon has made its Cinema line RF for the first time with the EOS C70. The OEM asserts that this change has been made in response to fan feedback. This camera also features the new Super 35mm DGO Sensor, which has an innovative ability to read each photodiode twice with a different gain each time. This may improve on noise reduction and dynamic range compared to its predecessors.

The EOS C70 is also equipped with an up-to-date DIGIC DV7 image processor, which supports Canon Log 2/3, PQ, XF-AVC and HLG gamma formats. It is rated for many higher-end forms of 4K and 2K, including 4K/60fps or 2K/120fps in Super16mm Crop mode.

The C70's design has also been updated with features such as dual built-in Mini XLR inputs, a Direct Touch Menu, a dedicated air-intake system that protects the sensor from contaminants and dual air-outlet vents that may help prolong recording times.

Finally, those who still prefer different lenses need not lose out with this new Digital Cinema variant: Canon has developed a new EF-EOS R 0.71x adapter for this purpose. It will be US$599 on its December 2020 release, whereas the EOS C70 will be $5499 when it becomes available in November 2020.
