Rumor | The iPhones 13 will launch without 1TB storage options for the Pros

Apple is currently expected to call its next upcoming round of iPhones the 13 series, as a direct carry-on from the current 12 line, on their late 2021 launch. These potential flagships are thought to come with several upgrades compared to the existing generation, new SKUs that would come with double the normal maximum of fixed storage (512GB) included.

However, the market research group TrendForce denies that these new "1TB iPhones" are coming in its latest report on Apple's plans for the next generation of its flagship smartphones. Instead, it asserts that most upgrades in the 13 (or, possibly "12s") series will be confined to their displays, mainly concerning the 120Hz refresh rates that somehow never made it to the OEM's OLED panels in 2020.

This updated spec is said to be destined for the next Pro and Pro Max variants. On that note, TrendForce now believes that Apple will also reserve its LIDAR technology for these larger and pricier models. Then again, the new report still predicts a step up to 5nm in the devices' new A15 Bionic chipset, not to mention updated cameras, complete with improved 6-piece (6P) lenses for ultra-wide sensors newly capable of auto-focus in the "12s Pro" variants.

On a brighter note, these choices are now projected to prevent any nasty iPhone "12s" starting-price surprises on their release, at least. According to TrendForce, Apple may want to harness a surge of momentum in consumer confidence as the strictures imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic ease by keeping costs in line with those of the 12 series in 2021.
