Xiaomi completed the global roll-out of the POCO M3 Pro in mid-2021. Now, a number of leaks suggest that a successor for this affordable 5G phone is incoming. The M4 Pro is said to have an SoC from the same OEM as its forebear, albeit with a new and upgraded charging rate.

The POCO M3 Pro is now available in a range of markets as a ~US$200 5G smartphone with triple rear cameras and a 90Hz display. Admittedly, this is because it is a re-branded Redmi Note 10 5G, albeit one with heavy restyling to put it firmly under the Xiaomi sub-brand's umbrella. Now, it seems POCO may intend to provide it with a successor soon.

This possibility has emerged due to a number of new certifications allegedly discovered on the databases of a number of official bodies. They include the EEC, MIIT and 3C, all of which have approved a new device called the Xiaomi 21091116AG.

This documentation come courtesy of the leaker Abhishek Yadav. Meanwhile, another tipster, Kacper Skrzypek, claims to have found the model number again, on a Turkish IMEI database this time. In this last case, it unambiguously corresponds to the name POCO M4 Pro.

According to 3C, it will ship with a 33 watt (W) power brick (whereas the M3 Pro can only charge at 18W), while Skrzypek asserts it will come with a MediaTek processor - perhaps a 2021 counterpart for the Dimensity 700 found in its alleged predecessor.

Therefore, it looks like the new POCO device may indeed be on the way, although it begs the question of what happened to the vanilla M4 along the way. It will be interesting to see if this putative upcoming smartphone maintains the refresh rate of the existing model, or will go even higher in this new generation.
