Samsung's next foldable leaks ahead of possible Galaxy UNPACKED launch
The Galaxy Fold may have been a mixed success, if we are being kind, but Samsung is pressing ahead with its next Galaxy-branded foldable. Strictly speaking, Samsung is onto its third foldable smartphone, although the W20 has sunk without a trace since its unveiling in November. Regardless, a new leak hailing from Weibo has given another glimpse at Samsung's next foldable smartphone.
Proclaimed last week by veteran Samsung leaker @UniverseIce as the Galaxy Z Flip, an apparent marketing poster of the device refers to it simply as the Galaxy Z. This could well be a fan-made image, but we would not rule it out at this stage. The image shows a device with three surfaces connected by two hinges, which would be ambitious considering the issues that Samsung had last year with the Galaxy Fold. The screen appears to stretch over the lower hinge too, possibly leaving a portion of the screen exposed when closed. Having what is probably a plastic screen always exposed seems short-sighted, to say the least.
A device with two hinges does make sense considering its "Z" branding, though. However, the one in the poster does not match previous leaks and rumours about Samsung's next foldable smartphone. Images published by @UniverseIce late last year showed a clamshell foldable akin to the Motorola Razr 2019, so could this poster be showing two clamshell handsets artfully placed next to each other? The Galaxy Z Flip, or whatever it ends up being called, is expected to launch at Galaxy UNPACKED next month.
