Xiaomi will show ambition with its next mobile tech product, the upcoming Redmi G (2021). The company will launch the Redmi G (2021) tomorrow in China and has now published a teaser pitting the laptop against two other gaming laptops from rival companies.
In a post on Weibo, Xiaomi compared the upcoming Redmi G (2021) to what looks to be the Lenovo Legion 5 and Asus TUF A15 gaming laptops. The teaser shows the Redmi G (2021) offering better specs than the competition, with more heat pipes (5) when compared to the Lenovo (3) and Asus (4). The Redmi G (2021) and its dual 12 V fans also appear more impressive than the Lenovo Legion 5's dual 10 V setup.
This supposed domination carries over to displays, with the Redmi G (2021) and its 16.1-inch 144 Hz being on par, at least, with the Lenovo's 15.6-inch 165 Hz screen and the A15's 15.6-inch 144 Hz display. Of course, those are just specs on paper, and real-world display quality may be a different matter.
Interestingly, Xiaomi also lists the competition's price tags. While all three laptops feature AMD's Ryzen 7 5800H and the GeForce RTX 3060, the Lenovo Legion 5 and Asus TUF A15 cost CNY 8,366 and CNY 7,899 respectively. If this teaser is any indication, Xiaomi will be looking to undercut both laptops, which would make the Redmi G (2021) cheaper than the Asus—essentially implying pricing lower than the equivalent of US1$1200. The first-gen Redmi G cost CNY 6,999 when fully specced, so we expect the Redmi G (2021) to be priced somewhere between.
