The AMD Radeon RX 5600M (or RX 5600 Mobile Graphics) is a mobile mid-range graphics card based on the Navi 10 chip (RDNA architecture) manufactured in the modern 7nm process. It features 2,304 cores (36 CUs - compute units) and fast GDDR6 graphics memory (12 Gbps most likely). The clock speed of the cores will depend on the laptop according to AMD. It can be up to the desktop RX 5600 XT (1265 base and 1560 boost).
The Navi 10 chip uses the new RDNA (Radeon DNA) microarchitecture which is a successor the the GCN instruction set. It features a new processor design, a multi-level cache hierarchy and an improved rendering pipeline with support for GDDR6 memory.
The performance of the RX5600M should be similar to a Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 according to AMD. That means it should be best suited for Full HD (1920x1080) with maximum settings in demanding games.
The chip starts with a TDP of 60 Watt (for a Max-Q like version we guess, as the RX 5500M already has a TDP of 85 Watt).
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q
► remove from comparisonThe NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 with Max-Q design is the power saving variant of the mobile RTX 2070 graphics card with reduced clock speeds and power consumption. Therefore, it is suitable for thin gaming laptops. It is based on the same TU106 chip with 2,304 shaders and 8 GB GDDR6 memory connected by a 256 bit interface (12 GHz).
Currently it looks like there will be two variants, a low power 80 Watt variant with 885 - 1185 MHz core clock and a faster 90 Watt variant with 1080 - 1305 MHz core clock). Both clock the memory at 6 GHz versus 7 GHz of the normal RTX 2070 (115 Watt TDP).
The clock is not the only difference compared to the regular GTX 1080 though. The drivers for the Max-Q version were optimized for efficiency (and not performance; only for Max-Q models), there are optimized voltage converters for 1V operation, high-end cooling methods, and a 40 dB limit for the fan noise (with clock adjustments to ensure this at all times).
Features

The RTX 20870 is also DisplayPort 1.4 ready, while there is also support for HDMI 2.0b, HDR, Simultaneous Multi-Projection (SMP) and H.265 video en/decoding (PlayReady 3.0).
Performance
The Max-Q version of the RTX 2070 should perform a bit slower than the mobile RTX 2070. Therefore, it should be able to run all demanding games in 2560x1440 with maximum details. Raytracing features however may reduce framerates a lot.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super Max-Q

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super with Max-Q design is the power saving variant of the mobile GeForce RTX 2080 Super with reduced clock speeds, performance and of course power consumption. It is intended for thin gaming laptops and based on the same TU104 chip with 3,072 shaders, 8 GB GDDR6 memory and a 256 Bit memory bus.
Currently it looks like there are three variants with a TGP of 80, 85 and 90 Watt. The clock speed ranges from 735 - 975 MHz for the base clock speed and 1080 - 1230 for the boost.
With the refresh, Nvidia also reworked the Max-Q technologies for more efficiency. Low Voltage GDDR6 (lower clocked but more headroom for the GPU) and improved regulator efficiency should improve the performance per Watt. Two new optional features can also be implemented by the OEM. Max-Q Dynamic Boost is able to shift power from the CPU to the GPU on a per frame basis to increase overall performance. Furthermore, the laptop manufacturer can also implement Advanced Optimus with a dynamic display switch (hardware) to enable Optimus, G-SYNC and high refresh rate displays (up to 4K 120 Hz).

Performance
Due to the lower clock rates, the Max-Q variant is clearly slower than the mobile RTX 2080 Super. In our benchmarks with the first devices, the performance is very similar to the old RTX 2080 Max-Q and only on a level with the non Max-Q RTX 2070. Therefore, the performance is ideal for 1440p gaming at max details for demanding games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Control or Borderlands 3. Less demanding games like F1 2019 can be played in 4k with maximum settings. Detailed gaming benchmarks can be found at the end of this page.
The power consumption of the card is between 80 - 90 Watt TGP and therefore significantly lower than the RTX 2080 Super Mobile (150 - 200 Watt).
