The AMD Ryzen 7 3750H is a mobile SoC that was announced in January 2019. It combines four Zen+ cores (8 threads) clocked at 2.3 - 4 GHz with a Radeon RX Vega 10 graphics card with 10 CUs (640 Shaders) clocked at up to 1400 MHz. Compared to the similar Ryzen 7 3700U, the 3750H offers a 20 Watt higher TDP and therefore a better performance under long periods of load. The integrated dual-channel memory controller supports up to DDR4-2400 memory. As the features of the Picasso APUs are the same compared to the Raven Ridge predecessors, we point to our Raven Ridge launch article.

The Picasso SoCs use the Zen+ microarchitecture with slight improvements that should lead to a 3% IPS (performance per clock) improvements. Furthermore, the 12nm process allows higher clock rates at similar power consumptions.

AMD states that the Picasso APUs are about 8% faster than the predecessors. Including the 35 Watt TDP, the 3750H should be a capable upper mid-range processor for laptops, including gaming laptops.

AMD Ryzen 3 3250U

The AMD Ryzen 3 3250U is a dual-core APU that was announced in 2020. The Ryzen features two Zen cores (SMT is enabled for a total of 4 threads) running at 2.6 GHz to 3.5 GHz and a Radeon RX Vega 3 graphics adapter with 3 CUs (192 unified shaders) clocked at up to 1,200 MHz. The specifications are similar to the older Ryzen 3 3200U, with the lower peak operating temperature of the former (95 °C versus the 105 °C) being the only difference betwen the two.

AMD Ryzen 3 3250C is a special edition of Ryzen 3 3250U designed for Chromebooks. The specifications and performance figures appear to be identical between the two.

Architecture

Ryzen 3 3250U is not Zen+ based unlike the costlier Ryzen 5 3500U and other higher-end Ryzen 3000 series mobile processors. It is manufactured on the same 14 nm process as Ryzen 2000 series mobile CPUs. RAM support is limited to dual-channel DDR4-2400 here.

The CPU has several PCI-Express 3.0 lanes and is thus compatible with NVMe SSDs (throughput will be limited to 3.9 GB/s) as well as discrete graphics cards. Ryzen 3 3250U gets soldered to the motherboard (FP5 socket) and is not user-replaceable.

Performance

Ryzen 3 3250U is an entry-level processor as of 2021. As such, it competes with the Core i3-10110U, certain Pentiums and other affordable Intel CPUs. While not a powerhouse, the Ryzen has enough muscle to chew through mundane tasks such as web browsing and a bit of casual gaming.

Graphics

The Vega 3 iGPU is fairly close to Intel's UHD Graphics 620 as far as performance and capabilities go. The graphics adapter definitely supports UHD 2160p monitors at 60 fps, and it can HW-decode VP9, AVC and HEVC-encoded videos. AV1 is not supported though. Vega 3 can handle some light gaming; F1 2021 runs well at 720p (Low), to give you an example. As the iGPU has no VRAM of its own, it is paramount that fast system RAM is used.

Power Consumption

Energy efficiency isn't great here as the 14 nm manufacturing node is obsolete by now. Still, the default TDP of 15 W makes the Ryzen a good fit for thinnner, lighter, easy to carry around laptops.
