After last month’s ThinkPad E14 G3 we welcome the 15-inch Lenovo ThinkPad E15 G3 this month.

1st – Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga

Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga
Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga

The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga might exceed our 1,000 Euro threshold ever so slightly, unless of course you qualify for student or other discounts, but it might also be well worth it.

The convertible comes with a fast Comet Lake-generation processor and is successor to the Lenovo ThinkPad L390 Yoga. It offers excellent input devices that will satisfy the most avid of typists, a decent system performance, a high quality choice of material, fast Wi-Fi, and last but not least an active stylus that can be stored inside the computer itself.

Downsides include its short warranty of just 12 months as well as a complete lack of WWAN options, which would have turned this device into a great business laptop. Its discreet fan management makes for high temperatures under load, and the resulting poor multi-core performance was one of the reasons why it failed to score higher than it did.

2nd – Lenovo ThinkPad E14 G3 AMD

Lenovo ThinkPad E14 G3 AMD
Lenovo ThinkPad E14 G3 AMD

Two of the highlights of Lenovo’s affordable ThinkPad E-series are its solid business features and its good input devices. The third generation comes with fast AMD Ryzen 5000-series processors and – finally – brighter displays. In other words: they come with a great price-performance ratio.

If you happen to be looking for an affordable office computer with good IPS display, long battery life, and an excellent keyboard look no further. The ThinkPad E14 G3 is what you’re after.

The third generation of Lenovo’s ThinkPad E14-series is currently not yet available in North America.

3rd – Acer Swift 3 SF314

Acer Swift 3 SF314
Acer Swift 3 SF314

If you’re looking for a compact 14-inch notebook maybe the Swift 3 SF314 is worth a closer look. The notebook remained fairly cool, offered a high level of system performance, a matte IPS display, and thanks to its AMD Ryzen 7 a fairly good system performance considering its price of around $1,000.

We found a few minor flaws as well, such as for example the dim display or the lack of card reader

Overall the notebook is worth considering and offers a modern USB-C 3.2 Gen. 2 port with support for DisplayPort and Power Delivery.

4th – Lenovo ThinkPad E15 G3

Lenovo ThinkPad E15 G3
Lenovo ThinkPad E15 G3

Lenovo’s 15-inch ThinkPad E15 received an update, and now comes with AMD’s fast third generation Ryzen 5000 processors as well as improved displays. The good keyboard remained unchanged, which is why the E15 G3 continues to be offer a great bang for the buck.

Plenty of performance, a bright display, a very good keyboard, and a long battery life: Lenovo’s ThinkPad E15 G3 with AMD Ryzen CPU is a great office notebook at a low price. Its only downsides are its high surface temperatures under load as well as its aging connectivity options.

The third generation of Lenovo’s ThinkPad E15 is currently not yet available in North America.

5th – Acer Spin 3 SP313-51N

Acer Spin 3 SP313-51N
Acer Spin 3 SP313-51N

Tiger Lake and Thunderbolt 4 make sure the Spin 3 SP313 is well-equipped and powerful enough for the future. Its versatile 360-degree display allows you to switch seamlessly between tablet and laptop mode.

Acer designed a laptop with real “spin”, a solid convertible that can transforms effortlessly between laptop and tablet.

The Tiger Lake-equipped Spin 3 is available among others on Amazon, with prices starting at $900.

6th – HP Envy x360 15

HP Envy x360 15
HP Envy x360 15

Compared to the Spectre x360 15 the HP Envy x360 15 lacks a few of its premium features. In return, prices start at a much lower $700 already, and it continues to feature a great case, an excellent keyboard, and an accurate display.

The device offers plenty of performance without asking too much of its cooling solution, and consequently remained fairly quiet and cool overall. It lacks a Thunderbolt port and does not support Windows Hello but considering its benefits these drawbacks are minor at best.

If you don’t need a GeForce GTX or Thunderbolt the Envy x360 15 is a great convertible for around less than $1,000, and may even offer more bang for the buck than the HP Spectre.

As mentioned, prices start at around $700 for the base model and $1,000 for the (currently unavailable) fully loaded Ryzen 7 SKU on HP’s own web store. It is also available through the usual retail channels, such as for example Newegg.

7th – Lenovo IdeaPad 5 14ALC05

Lenovo IdeaPad 5 14ALC05
Lenovo IdeaPad 5 14ALC05

Don’t expect a high-contrast display when purchasing the IdeaPad 5 14ALC05. At its price point of less than $700 this would be too much to ask for. In return, the screen is bright and matte, which makes up for its drawbacks. In addition, the laptop offers a long battery life, a backlit keyboard, and powerful internals, which is impressive considering its price.

Its integrated GPU even allows for some casual gaming, and the case can take a secondary SSD if required.

The IdeaPad 5 offers plenty of performance and long battery life. Its display could have been better but overall, it is a good deal for users on a tight budget.

The device sells through Lenovo’s own web store but was temporarily unavailable at the time of writing.

8th – Samsung Galaxy Book S

Samsung Galaxy Book S
Samsung Galaxy Book S

Samsung has returned to western markets, and its 13.3-inch large Galaxy Book S is a very flexible starting point. It can be purchased either with a traditional Intel CPU or an ARM processor, the same kind that can be usually found in smartphones and tablets. Both SKUs run Windows 10, however not all third-party software applications support the ARM architecture. We strongly advise you to do your due diligence before deciding on an architecture.

There are some additional differences, too. The ARM SKU offers a much longer battery life as well as an included LTE modem. In return, the Intel SKU features a brighter display, and Samsung has promised to improve upon the Intel SKU’s performance via a BIOS update shortly. Nevertheless, one has to keep in mind that this is a passively cooled laptop, and it is thus not meant for high-performance computing but rather simple undemanding tasks instead.

If you’re in the market for a lightweight and passively cooled notebook and might even want to take a sneak peek at the new ARM processors, the Book S is definitely an interesting contender.

9th – Lenovo ThinkPad L13

Lenovo ThinkPad L13
Lenovo ThinkPad L13

The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 is a ThinkPad-series Ultrabook. For less than $1,000 you get various of the well-known ThinkPad characteristics, such as the great keyboard, the trackpoint, a modern GPU that while integrated into the GPU still manages to offer decent oomph, and up-to-date connectivity including USB 4 and Thunderbolt 4.

Downsides include the slightly too dim display and the notebook’s comparatively short battery life. RAM is available aplenty (16 GB) but soldered onto the motherboard and of the slower DDR4-3200 type.

Lenovo’s Ultrabook is a great choice for everybody working on-the-go and looking for a lightweight and thin notebook.

10th – Lenovo ThinkBook 13s

Lenovo ThinkBook 13s
Lenovo ThinkBook 13s

Lenovo’s ThinkBook 13s sits somewhere in-between the professional ThinkPad and the consumer-oriented IdeaPad-series. It lacks the iconic trackpoint and features input devices that while not on a par with a ThinkPad are still fairly decent overall. In return, you get Thunderbolt 4 and a very good display.

Most components are soldered onto the motherboard and can thus no longer be replaced. A dedicated extra performance mode allows users to either increase or decrease performance in order to either get more done or increase battery life. One downside is its short warranty of just 12 months.

Nevertheless, the ThinkBook 13s is a decent subnotebook for everybody looking for a thin and lightweight notebook without the need for business features.
