POCO F1 gets 960fps recording via new official beta
Xiaomi's new sub-brand, POCO, has released a new beta for its popular debut device, the Snapdragon 845-powered F1. This ROM is based on the 'Pocophone's' pre-existing software, MIUI 10; however, its adds a new 'super low light mode' to the device's dual cameras, as well as slow-motion video at 960 frames per second (fps). This release was announced by POCO India's general manager, Manmohan Chandolu, on Twitter.
The new MIUI beta also includes tweaks for the UI's settings with respect to apps. The camera enhancements, however, are arguably the headline items for this update. The F1 was a surprise runner-up in a high-profile, poll-based smartphone camera shoot-out instituted by the tech YouTuber MKBHD across Instagram and Twitter. With these new enhancements, the F1 may do even better in this arena in the future.
On the other hand, XDA contributors have speculated that the '960 fps' in the F1's new beta is in fact achieved through the playback of 30 fps recordings interpolated from the pre-existing ability of the phone to record 240 fps video at 1080p. This may be how the Mi Mix 3 generates slow-mo at the same frame-rate, as it turns out. The theory is somewhat backed up by the fact that the resolution of the so-called 960fps feature is not mentioned in the release material available to the public.
Nevertheless, both of the POCO F1's new apparent camera attributes will not hurt its current popularity. It also has an excellent price for 2018 and access to Android Pie to speak for it. All in all, this announcement should make Android-savvy POCO fans very happy. Then again, anyone wanting to try this beta with their own F1 are advised, as always, to be aware that beta ROMs can be buggy and less than stable sometimes.
