More news about the Xiaomi Mi Band 6, which will likely be known as the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 6 for the global market, has been discovered via the Mi Fit app. It seems the Mi Band 6, which is expected to come with a built-in GPS, will allow wearers to reply to SMS messages and may even offer increased functionality for popular messenger services.

The Mi Band 5 was a great success story, as Xiaomi managed to pack it full of useful features such as 24-hour heart-rate tracking, smartphone remote control, and activity monitoring for barely US$40. Obviously, the company will want the Mi Band 6 to continue the incredible sales record of the Mi Band series, which means stuffing it with attractive new tools that will make Mi Band 1-5 owners want to upgrade to the latest model and bring in new customers.

A number of those upgrades for the Xiaomi Mi Band 6 have already been detailed thanks to a massive leak that revealed blood oxygen level measurement (SpO2 sensor), built-in GPS, Amazon Alexa support, and a larger display. That latter possibility, a bigger screen size, would fit nicely with the latest leak about the Mi Band 6, courtesy of Magical Unicorn (via XiaomiAdictos). Mi Fit app code reveals that the Mi Band 6 could allow users to “swipe up to reply to an SMS”, so a larger display would certainly be handier for scrolling through customized responses or even typing text.

While there has been some suggestion that this would mean greater integration with messenger services such as WhatsApp and Telegram, thus further removing the need for the presence of a smartphone, it might just be that the Xiaomi Mi Band 6 gives users the opportunity to select from a number of quick answers that are already installed in the wearable’s operating system (see examples below). Although an around June launch is expected for the Mi Band 6, recent news about certification and now this latest leak could indicate an earlier release schedule for Xiaomi’s 2021 activity tracker.
