The ARM Mali-T624 is an integrated graphics solution for ARM based processors. It can be built with 1 to 4 clusters/cores. The unified shader architecture supports OpenGL ES 3.0, OpenCL 1.1 as well as DirectX 11 (Feature Level 9_3).
The ARM Mali-T628 MP6 is an integrated graphics solution that launched in Samsung’s smartphone and tablet SoC Exynos 5420 Octa in autumn 2013. Besides OpenGL ES 3.0, the GPU also supports OpenCL 1.1 as well as DirectX 11. The Mali-T628 can be scaled from 1 up to 8 clusters/cores depending on the requirements.
The MP6 version, which is used by Samsung, has six clusters with a clock of up to 533 or 600 MHz (equals 122 GFLOPS). Depending on the 3D application, the performance is just slightly behind the Qualcomm Adreno 330 (Snapdragon 800) and the PowerVR G6430 (Apple A7), which makes the Mali-T628 to one of the fastest GPUs for tablets/smartphones in 2013. Even very demanding Android games are smooth in high resolutions (maximum resolution: 2560x1600 pixels).
The energy consumption is also comparatively high because of the good performance. Despite the 28 nm manufacturing process, SoCs with the Mali-T628 like the Exynos 5420 can usually be found in large high-end smartphones or tablets. The more recent 20 nm Exynos 5430, however, offers a somewhat higher efficiency.
