As the MIUI 14 release date grows closer, new features for the Xiaomi Android overlay have supposedly been leaked. The reported changes should help MIUI 14 reduce the amount of space it takes up on supported devices. The removal of ads in MIUI software has seemingly been a long time coming, as even MIUI 13 has ad-enabled features.

Xiaomi’s Android overlay, MIUI 14, will apparently start rolling out on November 19, according to a report out of China. The MIUI 14 release date will likely coincide with the launch of a new range of Xiaomi smartphones, which in this case should be the Xiaomi 13 series. Some features of the custom Android overlay have already been leaked, but it seems there are some more big changes coming that will please owners of phones that will support the latest MIUI software.

First up, it has been reported that MIUI 14 will not feature ads. One of the ways that Xiaomi managed to grow so quickly while remaining competitive was by featuring adverts in its MIUI operating system. Fans learned to tolerate the ads because they were purchasing affordable Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO smartphones that offered similar specifications to much more expensive devices from well-known rivals. However, apparently there is no space for ads in MIUI 14.

Secondly, in what seems to be another push by Xiaomi to make its premium-end devices more acceptable to those who may not have considered a purchase in the past, MIUI 14 will purportedly be bloatware free. Beyond Xiaomi’s own apps and typical Android/Google software, phones that come with MIUI 14 running on them out of the box will allegedly be spared the presence of a multitude of frequently superfluous pre-installed third-party apps.

Other minor MIUI 14 changes mentioned in the same report (from MyDrivers) include a large folder mode to aid in interaction between a handheld device and a desktop display, and numerous upgrades to utilities such as the clock, weather app, and the calendar tool. Some of the main smartphone ranges that are expected to support MIUI 14 (along with the upcoming Xiaomi 13 series) include the Xiaomi Mi 11 and Xiaomi 12 lineups, the Redmi K40 and K50 series, and the POCO F3 and F4 phones.
