The Huawei Mate 50 series is set to debut shortly. Word from China has now revealed some important details of the flagship phones, with two notable takeaways being the reported presence of a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 4G and a Mate 50 X that will finally succeed the popular Mate 20X from 2018.

The Huawei Mate 50 series is coming. Word on the grapevine indicates Huawei is readying its next-gen business-focused flagship phones for an August debut, and a new leak has now revealed details of the lineup ahead of time.

As reported by a Chinese source, the Huawei Mate 50 series will offer four devices: the standard Mate 50, the Mate 50 Pro, and the Mate 50 RS, in addition to the Mate 50 X. The Mate 20 X was received positively in 2018 with its massive 7.1-inch display standing out. Neither the Mate 30 nor Mate 40 series offered successors to the Mate 20 X, but it now appears Huawei could make amends with the Mate 50 series.

Supposedly, Huawei has three chipsets lined up for the series: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4G, the Kirin 9000S, and the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 4G. Reportedly, the most expensive version of the Mate 50 RS will come equipped with the Kirin 9000S, while the high-end model of the Mate 50 Pro will feature the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 4G. Other models get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4G. Huawei, of course, remains unable to use 5G chipsets.

Lastly, the Mate 50 series is touted to land with Harmony OS 3.0, and is said to bring major camera improvements, perhaps thanks to Huawei's new XMAGE imaging program.
