A new leak has provided a first look at MediaTek's next-gen flagship chipset, the successor to the new Dimensity 900 which could be branded as the Dimensity 10000. The SoC looks set to be built on TSMC's 3 nm, and is expected to do battle with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

MediaTek officially launched the Dimensity 9000 on December 16. While the chipset is yet to make its way to any smartphone on the market, it already has several takers, and looks to be a better chipset than Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. MediaTek isn't resting on those admittedly flimsy laurels, however, and is apparently already looking forward to its next-gen flagship chipset, an SoC expected to be branded as the Dimensity 10000.

According to Equal Leaks, MediaTek plans to launch a new chipset as the successor to the Dimensity 9000. The chipset's name is currently unknown but considering the company has both the Dimensity 8000 and Dimensity 9000 in its current lineup, it's safe to say that it could be branded as the Dimensity 10000.

Supposedly, the Dimensity 10000 will be built on TSMC's new 3 nm node. That would make it a generational upgrade on the 4 nm process underpinning the Dimensity 9000. TSMC promises 30% lower power consumption versus its 5 nm process.

Assuming all of this is accurate, the Dimensity 10000 will be aimed straight at the throat of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1's successor is already in the works but current rumors point at it ditching Samsung's node in favor of TSMC's 4 nm process. That would make for quite the conundrum as the Dimensity 10000 would be on a qualitatively better node. These are early days yet but we could be facing an era of MediaTek dominance.
